Timber Conservation Sash Windows UK

Heritage Sash Windows

Heritage Sash Windows

&

Our Heritage Sash windows are designed specifically for listed buildings, conservation areas and traditional period properties where authentic replication of original joinery is essential for planning approval. This specialist system mirrors the appearance and operation of historic Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian sash windows, while maintaining the craftsmanship expected from premium British timber windows.

To preserve historic sightlines, the Heritage Sash features slim, delicate timber profiles, combined with single glazing or ultra-narrow heritage double glazing, ensuring compliance with conservation requirements. The use of true, structural glazing bars allows accurate reproduction of traditional multi-pane designs, while our putty-line silicone detailing replicates the look of hand-tooled glazing putty found in original sash windows.

For precise heritage matching, the system supports bespoke bar layouts, arched heads, decorative mouldings and fine detailing, enabling exact reproduction of regional and era-specific sash patterns. A full range of heritage ironmongery — including sash locks, fasteners, lifts and restrictors — further enhances authenticity and functionality.

Heritage Sash Window Hardware
Traditional Weight & Pulley System

&

Our Heritage Sash windows use a traditional weight-and-pulley system, with high-load pulleys, braided sash cords and calibrated counterweights providing correct mechanical balance and smooth vertical operation.

Each window is fitted with authentic heritage ironmongery — sash fasteners, lifts and eyes — delivering secure locking and reliable day-to-day performance. All components are supplied by Mighton and Mila, leading UK manufacturers of conservation-approved sash window hardware.

Optional upgrades include sash restrictors for controlled openings, alternative lock types and Dee handles to improve grip and manual operation.

Ironmongery is available in traditional finishes — white, polished chrome, satin chrome, polished brass, antique brass and black — enabling precise alignment with listed-building requirements and regional architectural styles.

Glass & Glazing for
Heritage Sash Windows

&

Our Heritage Sash windows can be specified either with traditional single glazing (4 mm)—required in many listed buildings and strict conservation areas—or with slim double-glazed units 4/6/4 or 4/8/4, designed to replicate the appearance of historic putty-fronted sashes.

For safety-critical locations, toughened glass can be supplied in full compliance with UK Building Regulations Part K. Where enhanced protection is required, laminated security glazing improves resistance to forced entry and provides an additional safety layer in the event of breakage.

Heritage projects can also be customised with ornamental glazing or traditional stained-glass designs, allowing architects and conservation officers to achieve period-authentic character while meeting modern performance requirements.

Heritage Glazing Bars

&

Our Heritage Sash windows can be specified with true, fully structural glazing bars, accurately reproducing the slender Georgian, Regency and Victorian profiles required in listed buildings and conservation areas. These bars divide the glazing into genuine individual panes, preserving authentic sightlines and correct heritage proportions.

For period-specific restorations, we also offer traditional leaded glazing bars, manufactured to reflect the depth, texture and patterning of 19th-century leadwork commonly found in historic sash windows.

A defining detail of our heritage construction is the application of glazing silicone shaped to resemble traditional putty. The silicone is hand-finished around each pane in a way that echoes the profiles of historic putty work, ensuring the window retains a convincingly period appearance while benefiting from modern durability and weather protection.

Heritage Sash Horns

&

Our Heritage Sash windows can be specified with traditional sash horns, accurately replicating the structural and decorative features found in late-Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian joinery. As standard, horns are applied to the exterior face of the sash, preserving the correct historic appearance seen in original period fenestration. Internal horns may also be specified, providing matching detailing on the room side for projects requiring full architectural continuity.

We offer a range of horn profiles developed in collaboration with English architects, ensuring precise replication of regional period styles and the nuanced detailing expected in conservation-grade sash window design.

These horn options ensure that our Heritage Sash Windows meet the strict aesthetic and technical expectations of conservation officers and heritage architects across the UK and Ireland.

Timber & Finishes for
Heritage Sash Windows

&

Our Heritage Sash windows are manufactured from FSC-certified timber. We offer a curated range of proven species — pine, larch, spruce, meranti and Accoya®.

Irrespective of the timber specified for the frame or sashes, every sill section is produced from hardwood, ensuring long-term resistance to moisture, footfall wear and exposure — a requirement in heritage fenestration.

Painting & Finishing Systems

&

The finish applied to a Heritage Sash windows plays a crucial role in both appearance and long-term protection. Our windows are coated using high-performance Remmers, providing exceptional UV resistance, moisture protection and coating longevity.

Customers may select from the full RAL palette for classical or contemporary schemes, Farrow & Ball and Little Greene heritage colours for period accuracy, transparent stains to enrich the timber grain and Natural Effect coatings replicating the look of unfinished wood while retaining weather protection.

For traditional buildings requiring period-correct interior and exterior tones, our Heritage Sash windows can be supplied in dual-colour finishes, allowing precise alignment with façade treatments and interior architectural detailing.

Decorative Architraves for
Heritage Sash Windows

&

To complement our Heritage Sash windows, we offer a range of finely profiled decorative architraves, manufactured to replicate the precise moulding geometries found in Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian joinery. These timber mouldings frame the window opening, concealing the junction between the sash box and the internal wall line, while delivering the correct period detailing required in listed buildings and conservation-area refurbishments.

This detailing elevates the overall appearance of Heritage Sash installations, ensuring that both the window and its surrounding architecture retain the cohesive, refined character expected of premium UK conservation joinery.

Complete Range of Bespoke
Timber Windows and Doors

&

Our range of timber windows and doors is designed to be complete, coherent and beautifully crafted.

In addition to our Heritage Sash windows, we also manufacture casement windows, French doors, bi-fold doors and front doors.

All of our products can be made with matching glazing bars and complementary detailing, making it possible to achieve architectural harmony throughout the property.

This allows homeowners, architects and developers to specify bespoke timber joinery in a consistent style, colour and finish across the entire project.
